Trailhead

The Austin Helmers / Pioneer Ridge trailhead — the Mat-Su Borough's official coordinate is 61.4943825, -148.9275607.

Access road

Reached via Knik River Road, off the Old Glenn Highway east of Palmer.

Parking

This is a Mat-Su Borough trailhead that requires a Borough parking pass. Bring one — don't assume the day is entirely cost-free just because there's no Pioneer 60 fee.

Nearest major airport

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) — approximately one hour from Palmer under normal driving conditions.

General geography

Palmer sits in the Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) Valley, with Pioneer Peak rising directly above the valley floor.
